Solyndra workers eligible for $13,000 each
Fremont-based Solyndra's former employees are eligible for $13,000 each in federal aid under a program for workers who are hurt by overseas competition.
The package totals $14.3 million, according to the Department of Labor. Solyndra jettisoned 1,100 workers at the end of August when the solar company closed its doors without notice.
The program is the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act.
Solyndra said it was being hurt by cheap imports from China and other locations. However, its solar panels also were more expensive than comparable systems made by U.S.-based solar firms.
Former Solyndra employees will be eligible for additional health and unemployment benefits.
