“Korean orphan becomes global singing sensation Choi Sung-bong makes the judges cry on Korea's Got Talent with a performance of Nella Fantasia which has gone on to garner 10 million views online. The 21 year-old's boyish face and casual dress belied a powerful baritone voice that, combined with his inspirational life story, have made him an instant internet hit. Choi was left in an orphanage aged three and ran away when he was just five after suffering beatings from the people there. He survived by selling energy drinks and chewing gum on the streets of Daejon, a city to the south of Seoul, sleeping "on the stairs or in public toilets." When he was 14 a woman at a local snack bar helped him enter night school. From there he passed his middle and high school equivalency exams and entered art school where his talent for singing was discovered. "(Singing is) the reason for my living," said Choi. ”
